Jem Yoshioka is an illustrator and comic artist living in Wellington, New Zealand. Deftly weaving words and pictures together, Jem’s comics tell evocative and emotional stories with themes of belonging, place, and heritage. Jem is currently publishing the webcomic Circuits and Veins to Webtoon, which is a soft science fiction romance story about an android and a human falling in love. recent work explores the fluidity of her mixed race identity, documenting the challenges, delights and frustrations of being from more than one place at once. Jem has been published in local and international comic anthologies, The School Journal, and a variety of other publications. She won first place in the Chromacon New Zealand Indie Arts Festival Comic Awards in 2013 and 1025, and was a finalist in 2017.
